Madrid's three terminals serve 22 million passengers per year. Terminal one handles all international flights except for Iberia flights to Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Portugal. Terminal two serves domestic flights and the Iberia international flights listed above. The new terminal three is used primarily for the Madrid-Barcelona shuttle. Major airlines: In addition to Spain's national airline Iberia, (tel: (91) 722 9600; website: www.iberia.com), over 50 airlines serve Barajas, including Air France, Alitalia, American Airlines, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways International. Approximate flight times to Madrid: From London is 2 hours 15 minutes; from New York is 7 hours 5 minutes; from Los Angeles is 11 hours 5 minutes (plus transfer); from Toronto is 7 hours 5 minutes (plus transfer) and from Sydney is 27 hours 30 minutes (plus transfer). Airport facilities: These include banks, bureaux de change and ATMs, pharmacies, hotel and rail reservation, tourist information, left-luggage, a post office, shops, restaurants and bars, and car hire from Budget, Europcar and Hertz. Business facilities: The airport has two business lounges in terminal one (with fax and telephone) and Iberia has a lounge in terminals one and two. The Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry has a small office in terminal one (tel: (91) 305 8807; open 0800-2100) and a meeting room for eight people with photocopier, fax and phone available for Pta5000 (plus VAT) per hour. Arrival/departure tax: None. Transport to the city: The airport bus (tel: (91) 401 9900 or 431 6192) departs every 12 minutes for the underground bus terminal at Plaza de Colón (journey time - 45 minutes) and costs Pta385. The taxi journey costs about Pta2000, including Pta400 airport charge (journey time - 30 minutes). The new Barajas metro (line 8) provides a fast route into central Madrid, via Mar de Cristal (line 4). |
